Philippine Stock Exchange Holds Annual Stockholders’ Meeting on July 4, 2026
The Philippine Stock Exchange, Inc. (PSE) filed a report with the Securities and Exchange Commission about their Annual Stockholders’ Meeting that took place on July
The Philippine Stock Exchange was formed from the country’s two former stock exchanges, the Manila Stock Exchange (MSE), established on August 8, 1927, and the Makati Stock Exchange (MkSE), which was established on May 27, 1963. Although both the MSE and the MkSE traded the same stocks of the same companies, the bourses were separate stock exchanges until December 23, 1992, when both exchanges were unified to become the present-day Philippine Stock Exchange. The PSE is currently owned and managed by The Philippine Stock Exchange, Inc., a company that is also listed on the exchange, and it is responsible for managing the entire stock exchange, and currently has a total of 285 listed companies.
In 2001, the PSE was transformed from a non-profit, non-stock, member-governed organization into a shareholder-based, revenue-earning corporation headed by a president and a board of directors and on December 15, 2003, listed its own shares on the exchange. In June 1998, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) granted the PSE a “Self-Regulatory Organization” (SRO) status, which meant that the bourse can implement its own rules and establish penalties on erring trading participants and listed companies. The PSE’s headquarters is located at the Philippine Stock Exchange Tower, located along the One Bonifacio High Street complex in Bonifacio Global City.
The PSEi is the main index of the Exchange. It is composed of a fixed basket of 30 companies, whose selection is based on a specific set of criteria. The PSEi measures the relative changes in the free float-adjusted market capitalization of the 30 largest and most active common stocks listed at the PSE. To track the performance of specific sectors of the market, the PSE also maintains six sector indices representing each major sector under the industry classification of the Exchange. These indices are the Financials Index, Industrial Index, Holding Firms Index, Property Index, Services Index, and Mining & Oil Index. The All Shares Index is a complementary index to the PSEi and is considered a broader barometer of the index, because it includes all the common stocks of companies listed at the Exchange.
The Philippine stock market is a viable destination for companies seeking to go public and offers a solid platform for equity financing and long-term growth. It is home to a wide spectrum of firms โ ranging from the biggest Philippine conglomerates to small, medium, and emerging enterprises โ which have successfully tapped the equities market for their funding requirements. Companies that want to list on the Exchange can find different options suited for their size, industry, and goals.
In 2005, the PSE adopted an online daily disclosure system (ODiSy) to improve the transparency of listed companies and ensure full, fair, timely and accurate disclosure of material information from all listed companies. The ODiSy provides a 24/7 online system access for the submission of all types of disclosures. The Philippine Stock Exchange permanently closed its trading floor in Bonifacio Global City on Friday, June 24, 2022; it would start floor-less trading the following Monday, June 27, 2022. In 2016, The Marquee Awards of Alpha Southeast Asia magazine recognized PSE as the Best Stock Market in Southeast Asia for the year 2015.
