It is a family-owned, professionally run company that has a proud Filipino heritage for about a century, with the Garcia-Escaño Family of Cebu leading the organization. The company traces its roots to the 1879 founding of Hijos de F. Escaño Inc. (HDFE) by Don Fernando Escaño, and in the early 1900s, the Family expanded from shipping and trade into the power industry by acquiring Visayas Electric Company (VECO), which supplied electricity to Cebu City and its neighboring areas. Today, VECO is the Philippines’ second-largest privately owned electric power distribution utility in terms of annual GWh sales.
