ACEN Powers De La Salle University Laguna Campus with 100% Renewable Energy

ACEN Powers De La Salle University Laguna Campus with 100% Renewable Energy

De La Salle University (DLSU) Laguna campus in Biñan is now running entirely on renewable energy, according to a disclosure filed by ACEN Corporation on March 4, 2026. The university has entered into a supply agreement with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), the retail electricity supply unit of the Ayala group.

What Does This Mean?

Think of electricity like water flowing through pipes to your house. Usually, that electricity comes from burning coal or gas, which creates pollution. But renewable energy comes from clean sources like the sun, wind, or water. Now, instead of using “dirty” electricity, DLSU Laguna will use only “clean” electricity provided by ACEN RES.

This move underscores DLSU Laguna’s commitment to sustainability and sets a strong precedent for other educational institutions and businesses in the region.

Why Is This Important?

Sheila Mina, who leads account management at ACEN RES, explained the significance of this partnership. She noted that this collaboration highlights the growing commitment of institutions to embrace renewable energy and demonstrates the tangible benefits of programs like the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP).

Dr. Jonathan “River” Dungca, Vice President of DLSU Laguna Campus, emphasized what this means for the school. He stated that the switch to renewable energy is a pivotal step in fulfilling their vision and that this partnership not only reduces their carbon footprint but also serves as a living testament to their commitment to environmental stewardship.

About DLSU Laguna

DLSU Laguna is strategically located near Laguna Technopark and is dedicated to scientific and technological advancements, with partnerships with international institutions geared towards finding solutions to global challenges.

The Green Energy Option Program (GEOP)

DLSU Laguna’s switch to renewable energy aligns with the government’s GEOP, which empowers electricity consumers with a monthly average consumption of at least 100 kilowatts to choose their renewable energy supplier. This program, created by the Department of Energy, lets bigger electricity users pick where their power comes from—and they can choose clean, renewable sources.

ACEN RES: Leading the Renewable Energy Market

ACEN RES has emerged as the dominant player in the GEOP market. In fact, according to the latest Competitive Retail Electricity Market (CREM) report from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), ACEN RES holds a significant 57% market share in the GEOP segment. This means that more than half of all customers choosing renewable energy through this program are getting it from ACEN RES.
