Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGI) – the big company owned by businessman Dr. Andrew L. Tan – announced that it made P16.0 billion in profit during the first six months of 2026. According to a disclosure filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on August 14, 2026, this is 3% more than the P15.6 billion they made during the same period last year.
What Does Alliance Global Group Do?
Think of Alliance Global Group like a parent company that owns several different businesses. It’s like having different toys in your toy box – each toy does something different but they all belong to you. AGI owns:
- Megaworld Corporation – builds buildings, shopping malls, and entire neighborhoods
- Emperador Inc. – makes alcoholic drinks like brandy and whisky
- Travellers International – runs hotels, casinos, and resorts (including Newport World Resorts)
- Interest in McDonald’s Philippines
Where Did the Money Come From?
According to the company’s report, the money came from three main sources:
1. Property Leasing (Renting Out Buildings)
Megaworld, which builds townships (think of small cities within cities), reported a profit of P12.7 billion – that’s 5% more than last year. The company made P44.2 billion in total revenue.
Their recurring income (money that comes in regularly, like allowance every week) grew nicely:
- Hotels grew fastest at 11%, making P3.1 billion. They opened a new 405-room Belmont Hotel in Iloilo.
- Shopping malls earned P3.6 billion, up 8%. Their malls are 95% full with tenants (stores renting space).
- Office buildings made P7.8 billion, up 5%, with big international companies renting space.
Megaworld also sold P63.0 billion worth of residential units (condos and houses) – that’s 15% more than last year. Sales were especially strong in provinces outside Manila.
2. Gaming and Tourism Business
Travellers International, which runs Newport World Resorts, showed the biggest improvement. Their profit almost doubled to P568 million, while their EBITDA (a measure of how much money a business makes before certain expenses) grew 13% to P4.4 billion.
The company made P15.2 billion in total revenue. Interestingly, they made less money from VIP gamblers (rich people who bet a lot), but made up for it with:
- Regular gamblers (non-VIP) who brought in P9.6 billion, up 6%
- Non-gaming activities like hotels and restaurants, which earned P3.9 billion – up 12%
The company is also building more capacity with Westside Resorts Manila and Narra Palm Resorts and Villas opening later this year.
3. Spirits (Alcoholic Beverages)
Emperador, which makes brandy and whisky, earned P29.6 billion in revenue – 5% more than last year. The company’s net income was P3.7 billion.
Here’s how their products performed:
- Brandy sales grew 4% to P19.2 billion, but their profit from brandy jumped 20% because they sold more expensive varieties
- Whisky sales grew 7% to P10.4 billion, with profit up 12%
Emperador is known as the world’s largest brandy producer and one of the fastest-growing Scotch whisky manufacturers.
What the Company Says
Kevin L. Tan, President and CEO of AGI, explained that even though the global business environment is challenging, the company’s strength comes from having different types of businesses. He noted that their property rental income keeps growing, their gaming business is earning more even without VIP gamblers, and their spirits business continues to expand.
The report emphasizes that AGI is focusing on “high-quality earnings” – meaning money that comes in regularly and reliably, rather than income that changes a lot from month to month.
