Sun Life Financial Shareholders Vote to Elect 13 Company Directors

Sun Life Financial Inc., a big insurance and financial services company that operates in the Philippines, recently held an important meeting where shareholders voted to choose the company’s directors.

According to the announcement made on May 7, 2026, from their Toronto, Canada headquarters, all 13 people nominated to be directors of Sun Life were elected by the shareholders. Sun Life trades on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) under the ticker symbol SLF, along with the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

What Are Directors and Why Do They Matter?

Think of directors like team captains or class presidents for a company. They make important decisions and help guide the company in the right direction. Shareholders (people who own parts of the company) get to vote on who these directors should be, similar to how people vote in elections.

The Voting Results

The voting took place at Sun Life’s annual and special meeting of common shareholders. Here’s how the 13 nominees performed:

  • Kevin D. Strain and Marcia Moffat received the most support, with 99.8% of votes in favor
  • Patrick P.F. Cronin received 99.6% votes in favor
  • Most other directors received between 99.1% to 99.5% votes in favor
  • Joseph M. Natale received the least support at 97.9%, though this still shows strong approval
  • Helen M. Mallovy Hicks received 98.2% votes in favor

Even the directors with the lowest percentage of “yes” votes still had overwhelming support from shareholders, showing that shareholders were generally happy with all the nominees.
