A Brown Company Completes ₱2.3 Billion Investment in Two Wind Power Projects

A Brown Company, Inc. (PSE: BRN), through its energy subsidiary ABC Energy Inc., has finished investing ₱2.3 billion in two wind power projects in the Philippines, according to a media release issued on July 20, 2026.

What Did A Brown Buy?

Think of it like buying a share of a lemonade stand, but instead of lemonade, these companies make electricity from wind. A Brown bought 40% ownership (meaning 40 parts out of 100) in two separate wind power companies:

  • Alternergy Tanay Wind Corporation (ATWC) – operates a wind project in Tanay, Rizal
  • Alabat Wind Power Corporation (AWPC) – operates a wind project in Alabat, Quezon

The original owner, Alternergy, still keeps 60% (the bigger share) of both companies and will continue to manage and run them.

How Far Along Are These Wind Projects?

Both wind farms are almost finished being built:

  • The Tanay Wind Project can produce 128 megawatts (MW) of electricity and is 89% complete. It’s expected to start operating commercially in October 2026.
  • The Alabat Wind Project can produce 64 megawatts of electricity and is 83% complete. It’s also moving toward starting operations soon.

To put this in perspective, 128 MW is enough to power tens of thousands of homes.

Why Did the Price Change?

According to the release, A Brown decided to complete its investment earlier than originally planned – before the wind projects started making money. Because they paid early, both companies agreed to adjust the price to ₱2.3 billion to reflect this earlier payment timeline.

Where Did A Brown Get the Money?

A Brown raised money by selling bonds (think of bonds as IOUs where investors lend money to the company and get paid back with interest later). The company sold ₱4.0 billion worth of bonds for the first time ever, which were listed on the Philippine Dealing & Exchange Corporation on July 3, 2026. Part of this money was used to pay for the wind projects.

What Does This Mean for A Brown?

According to A Brown President Paul B. Juat, this is the largest single investment the company has ever made. He explained that it represents an important shift for A Brown toward renewable energy and gives them their first position in wind power.

The Philippine Competition Commission approved the transaction in March 2026.
