Universal Robina Corporation (URC), one of the Philippines’ largest food and beverage companies, shared good news about their business performance for the second quarter of 2026, according to a press release filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on August 6, 2026.
What Does “Second Quarter” Mean?
Think of a year like a pizza cut into four equal slices. Each slice is called a “quarter” and represents three months. The second quarter covers April, May, and June of 2026.
How Much Money Did URC Make?
URC reported sales of ₱41.5 billion during the second quarter of 2026. This means people bought ₱41.5 billion worth of their products like Jack ‘n Jill snacks, C2 drinks, and other food items. This is 2% more than what they sold during the same period last year.
When looking at the first half of the entire year (January to June), their sales grew by 4% compared to last year.
Which Products Sold Well?
According to the company, the growth came mainly from:
- Branded Consumer Foods (BCF) – These are the snacks, beverages, and packaged foods you see in stores with URC’s brand names
- Animal Nutrition and Health (ANH) – These are products for feeding animals like pigs and chickens
- Flour business – URC makes flour that bakeries and food makers use
The company explained that people kept buying their products (which they call “resilient core demand”), and URC continued spending money on advertising and promoting their brands.
What About Profits?
URC’s “core net income” – which is basically the profit money that belongs to the company’s owners after paying all expenses – grew by 10% to ₱2.9 billion in the second quarter. This is the money left over after the company pays for ingredients, workers, electricity, and everything else needed to run the business.
Their “net income from continuing operations” was even better, reaching ₱3.0 billion, which is 25% higher than the same period last year.
What Challenges Did URC Face?
The company mentioned some difficulties:
- Higher oil costs – Because of the Middle East Conflict, oil became more expensive, which made it costlier to transport their products
- Sugar business weakness – Their sugar division didn’t perform as well because they sold less sugar and prices in the market were lower
What Helped URC Despite the Challenges?
Several things helped the company grow their profits:
- Strong performance from their food brands in the Philippines
- Good results from their international food business
- Their flour factory in Sariaya was used more efficiently, producing more flour and making more money
- Better management of borrowing costs (the interest they pay on loans)
