Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), one of the big banks in the Philippines, just shared some good news about how much money they made in the first three months of 2026.
According to their report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on April 28, 2026, RCBC earned P2.7 billion in net profit during the first quarter of 2026. That’s 12% more than what they made during the same time last year.
What Does This Mean in Simple Terms?
Think of a bank like a store that deals with money. When people borrow money from the bank (like loans for cars or houses), they pay the bank back with a little extra money called “interest.” That’s one way banks make money.
RCBC made more money this year because:
- More people borrowed money from them
- They didn’t have to pay as much to the people who keep their money in the bank (depositors)
How Did RCBC Earn More Money?
The bank’s net interest income (the money they make from lending minus what they pay depositors) reached P15.4 billion, which is 25% higher than last year. This happened because their costs went down while their lending activities grew.
Their total revenues climbed to P17.0 billion, up 16% from the previous year.
More People Are Borrowing Money
One big reason RCBC did well is that their consumer loans (money lent to regular people, not businesses) grew by 27%. Here’s what people borrowed money for:
- Car loans: Up 39% – meaning a lot more people bought cars with RCBC’s help
- Credit card use: Up 28% – more people used RCBC credit cards
- Home loans: Up 17% – more families borrowed money to buy houses
RCBC mentioned they use “data-driven acquisition strategies,” which is a fancy way of saying they use computer technology to find the right customers who will likely pay back their loans.
More People Are Saving Money with RCBC Too
The total money people deposited (saved) in RCBC grew by 9% to reach P1.0 trillion (that’s P1,000 billion!).
Half of these deposits are in CASA accounts, which stands for “Current Account and Savings Account.” These are good for banks because they don’t have to pay much interest on these accounts.
RCBC’s digital platforms like Diskartech and Pulz helped attract more depositors. Interestingly, the bank’s deposit costs (what they pay to people who save money with them) went down by 29% compared to last year.
What the Bank President Said
RCBC President and CEO Reggie Cariaso explained that the bank focuses on “building resilient platforms that scale responsibly, support growth, and deliver consistent value to our customers.” In simpler words, they want to grow the bank in a smart, safe way that helps their customers.
Awards and Recognition
RCBC has won 12 awards since the start of 2026, including “Best Bank for Customer Service Philippines” from Global Business Review Magazine and “Excellence in Financial Inclusion” from the RBI Asia Trailblazer Awards.
How Big Is RCBC?
As of March 31, 2026, RCBC has:
- 470 branches across the Philippines
- 1,520 ATMs where you can withdraw money
- 4,632 ATM Go terminals
RCBC is part of the Yuchengco Group of Companies, one of the oldest and largest business groups in Southeast Asia. The bank trades on the Philippine Stock Exchange and had 2,419,536,530 common shares outstanding as of April 28, 2026.
