Security Bank Names JD Yap as New Chief Financial Officer Starting June 2026

Security Bank Corporation has announced a new leader for its money management team. According to their press release filed with the Philippine Stock Exchange on May 26, 2026, the bank is appointing John David “JD” Yap as their new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), starting on June 13, 2026.

What Does a Chief Financial Officer Do?

Think of a CFO as the person in charge of taking care of all the bank’s money decisions. Just like how you might keep track of your allowance and decide how to save or spend it, a CFO does this for a huge company – but with much bigger amounts of money! The CFO makes sure the bank uses its money wisely, reports how much money the bank has, and plans for the future.

Who is JD Yap?

JD Yap isn’t new to Security Bank. He currently works there as an Executive Vice President and leads the Business Banking Segment (BBS). This is the part of the bank that helps small and medium-sized businesses (like local shops, restaurants, and small companies) with their banking needs.

Under Yap’s leadership, this division won several awards in 2025. Three different organizations – Asia Banking & Finance, FinanceAsia, and The Digital Banker – all named Security Bank the “Best Bank for SMEs in the Philippines.” SME stands for Small and Medium Enterprises, which means small businesses.

Before working at Security Bank, Yap spent over 25 years working in banking and finance. He held important positions in Singapore at well-known companies like Standard Chartered Bank, United Overseas Bank, and even Grab Finance (yes, the same company behind the Grab ride app!).

What Will Change?

Yap will replace Allen Reyes, who is leaving Security Bank on June 12, 2026, to pursue other opportunities. In his new role as CFO, Yap will be responsible for:

  • Financial planning (deciding how the bank should use its money)
  • Making sure all financial reports follow the rules
  • Managing the bank’s capital (the money the bank has)
  • Talking to investors (people who own parts of the bank)
  • Sustainability efforts (making sure the bank helps the environment and society)

During the transition period, Yap will continue managing the Business Banking Segment temporarily until a replacement is found. Security Bank assured that all operations will continue normally during this change.

About Security Bank

Security Bank is one of the major banks in the Philippines. As of March 31, 2026, the bank had total assets worth PHP 1.2 trillion. To put that in perspective, that’s PHP 1,200,000,000,000 – a really big number!

The bank was founded in 1951, making it over 75 years old. It has 390 branches across the country and 666 ATMs and cash machines where people can withdraw or deposit money.

Security Bank is listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol SECB. According to the filing, the bank has 753,538,887 common shares outstanding.

An interesting fact about Security Bank is that MUFG Bank, which is Japan’s largest bank, owns 20% of Security Bank. This partnership helps Security Bank learn from one of the world’s biggest financial groups.

The bank has received multiple awards in 2026, including being named “Best Private Bank in the Philippines” by Global Finance and earning an “A” rating from MSCI for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.

Security Bank President and CEO Victor Lee praised Yap’s appointment, saying: “JD has a strong record of building businesses, leading teams, and driving execution at scale. His appointment reflects the Bank’s continued focus on leadership continuity, disciplined growth, and long-term capability building.”
