ABS-CBN Corporation, one of the Philippines’ biggest media and entertainment companies, reported earnings of P3.33 billion for the first three months of 2026, according to a press release issued on May 15, 2026.
What Happened to Their Earnings?
The company’s main business – making and distributing shows, movies, and other content – earned P2.76 billion during the first quarter of 2026. This is 13% less compared to the same time period last year.
At the overall company level, total revenue reached P3.33 billion, which is 21% lower than the first quarter of 2025. The Cable TV and Broadband businesses were responsible for most of this decline.
Why Did Revenue Go Down?
According to the company, there are several reasons for the lower earnings:
- No election advertising: In 2025’s first quarter, companies spent money on election-related advertisements. This didn’t happen in 2026, so ABS-CBN earned less from ads.
- Less advertising overall: The entire advertising industry is spending less money compared to last year.
- Economic challenges: Global events have affected how confident consumers feel about spending money, which has impacted the Philippine economy.
- Missing big events: In early 2025, ABS-CBN had BINI’s sold-out concert at the Philippine Arena and the successful movie “My Love Will Make You Disappear.” These big money-makers didn’t happen in the first quarter of 2026.
The Good News: Lower Expenses
While ABS-CBN earned less money, they also spent less. Operating expenses (the money needed to run the business) decreased by 5% to P160 million. The company cut general expenses and employee costs by P136 million.
For the entire company, consolidated operating expenses improved by 12%, or P568 million, dropping to P4.06 billion.
Company’s Net Loss
After all the calculations, ABS-CBN reported a consolidated net loss of P813 million for the quarter. A net loss means the company spent more money than it earned during this period.
What’s Coming Next?
ABS-CBN expects revenues to improve significantly for the rest of 2026. The company announced several upcoming projects:
- Popular actor Coco Martin is expected to return to prime time television in June
- Star Cinema’s first movie for the year, “Tayo Sa Wakas,” is scheduled for release in May
- BINI’s world tour is expected to begin in June, following their performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April
