San Beda College Alabang Switches to 100% Renewable Energy with ACEN

ACEN Corporation, through its retail electricity business ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), has signed a deal with San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) to supply the school with 100% renewable energy for its entire campus.

According to a disclosure filed with the Philippine Stock Exchange on May 18, 2026, this partnership represents an important step in the school’s commitment to taking care of the environment.

What Does This Agreement Mean?

Think of it like this: instead of getting electricity from power plants that burn coal or gas (which creates pollution), San Beda College Alabang will now get all its electricity from clean sources like solar panels, wind turbines, and geothermal plants (which use heat from inside the Earth).

ACEN RES will supply this clean electricity to the school through a government program called Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA). This program allows big electricity users like schools and businesses to choose where they want to get their power from, instead of being stuck with just one provider.

How Much Pollution Will This Prevent?

By switching to renewable energy, San Beda College Alabang will avoid creating more than 2,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) every year. To help you understand how much that is: it’s roughly the same amount of CO₂ that approximately 100,000 trees can absorb in one year.

Will the School Save Money?

Yes! The school expects to save about ₱8 million pesos each year on their electricity bills. This money will be used to improve their academic programs and student services, which means better facilities and resources for students.

According to Rev. Fr. Gerardo Ma. De Villa, OSB, the school’s Rector, “By powering our campus with 100% renewable energy, we are showing our students that sustainability and excellence go hand-in-hand.”

About ACEN’s Renewable Energy Business

ACEN RES is currently the biggest green energy supplier in the Philippines, controlling 65% of the market according to data from the Philippine Electricity Market Corp. (PEMC). This means that out of every 100 customers who buy renewable energy, 65 of them buy from ACEN RES.

Tony Valdez, Senior Vice President for Market Transformation and Retail at ACEN, said they are happy to welcome San Beda Alabang to their growing list of partner schools and universities.
