Asia United Bank, also known as AUB, has announced an exciting new plan to use artificial intelligence (AI) to help the bank grow and serve its customers better, according to a press release filed with the Philippine Stock Exchange.
What Is AUB Doing?
Think of AUB like a superhero bank that wants to combine two special powers: the speed and tech-smarts of a fintech company (that’s a technology company that does banking on apps and computers) with the strength and safety of a traditional big bank.
The bank is facing some challenges in 2026, like rising prices (inflation) and changes in money values between countries. To deal with these problems, AUB is using two main strategies:
1. Using Smart AI Technology
AUB is using something called “Generative AI” – imagine having a really smart robot helper that can give you money advice instantly on your phone. The bank is using this technology to:
- Give personalized financial tips to millions of people using their digital apps
- Offer instant loan approvals to small and medium-sized businesses
2. Getting More Money to Grow
The bank’s board of directors, led by their new Chairman Abraham T. Co, approved a plan to increase how much money the bank is allowed to have. They want to raise their “authorized capital stock” from ₱14.70 billion to ₱72.50 billion. This is like asking permission to have a much bigger piggy bank so they can do more business. However, this still needs approval from the bank’s shareholders (the people who own parts of the bank).
Good News for Shareholders: Dividends!
AUB announced it will give money back to its shareholders in two ways:
Cash Dividends
The bank will give ₱2.50 per share in cash, split into three payments:
- ₱1.00 per share on July 30, 2026
- ₱1.00 per share on September 30, 2026
- ₱0.50 per share on December 18, 2026
Stock Dividends
The bank also approved a 100% stock dividend. This means if you own one share of AUB, you’ll get one more share for free! However, this still needs shareholder approval and regulatory clearance before it happens.
How Did AUB Do in 2025?
The bank had a very successful year in 2025, which is why they feel confident about their new plans. Here are the highlights:
Record Profits
AUB made ₱12.7 billion in profit in 2025 – their highest ever! This was 12% more than the previous year. To understand how well they used their money:
- Return on Equity (ROE) was 20.0% – this means for every ₱100 that shareholders invested, the bank made ₱20 in profit
- Return on Assets (ROA) was 3.10% – this shows how efficiently the bank uses everything it owns to make money
- Both numbers are much better than average Philippine banks
The Bank Got Bigger
AUB’s total assets (everything the bank owns) grew 13% to ₱435 billion. Their loans to businesses grew to ₱276 billion.
Very Healthy Loan Portfolio
One of AUB’s most impressive achievements is how few of their loans go bad. Their Non-Performing Loan (NPL) ratio was only 0.38% – this means out of every 1,000 pesos they lent out, only about 4 pesos weren’t being paid back properly. The average for Philippine banks is 1.18%, so AUB is doing three times better than average!
According to AUB President Manuel A. Gomez, this success comes from carefully choosing who to lend money to, watching loans closely, catching problems early, and working with borrowers to fix issues before they become serious.
Strong Safety Cushion
The bank has plenty of capital (money reserves) to protect against problems:
- Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio increased to 18.39% from 17.03%
- Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) reached 19.11%
These ratios are like safety buffers – they show the bank has plenty of extra money set aside to handle unexpected problems.
AUB’s Digital Products
HelloMoney App
AUB’s e-wallet app called HelloMoney reached almost 9 million users by the end of 2025. The app works with Alipay+ network, which means users can pay for things in China and nearly 60 other countries. The app also has a feature called HelloInvest that lets people buy government Treasury bills (a safe way to invest money) directly from their phones.
AUB PayMate
This is AUB’s system that helps businesses accept digital payments through QR codes and credit cards like Mastercard and Visa. In 2026, the bank is launching AUB PayMate Business, which will help small businesses with automatic billing and instant financing for their inventory (the products they sell).
