Globe Telecom, Inc., one of the Philippines’ major telecommunications companies, has signed a loan agreement with BDO Unibank, Inc. for 5 billion pesos, according to a press release filed with the Philippine Stock Exchange on June 23, 2026.
What Will Globe Use This Money For?
Think of this loan like borrowing money from a bank to build something important. Globe will use this 5 billion pesos for three main things:
- Capital expenditures (capex) – This is money spent to build and improve their internet towers, cables, and equipment so your phone and internet work better
- Debt refinancing – This means paying off older loans, kind of like when parents might get a new loan with better terms to pay off an old one
- General corporate funding – Money needed to run the daily operations of the company
How Much is Globe Spending on Improvements?
Globe has set a budget of under 1 billion US dollars for the entire year of 2026 to improve their networks. This shows the company is serious about making their internet and mobile services faster and more reliable for Filipinos.
During the first three months of 2026, Globe already spent 12.7 billion pesos on improvements – that’s 51% more compared to the same period last year. This represents 30% of their service revenues during that time.
Interestingly, 91% of this spending went specifically to data-related projects. “Data-related” means anything that helps you use the internet, stream videos, play online games, or use apps on your phone.
