Maynilad's Earnings Jump 10% in First Quarter of 2026 as Water Service Improves

Maynilad Water Services, Inc., the company that provides water to millions of homes in Metro Manila’s west zone, announced on April 29, 2026 that it earned more money and served its customers better during the first three months of 2026 compared to the same period last year.

What Does Maynilad Do?

Think of Maynilad as the company responsible for bringing clean water to your faucet if you live in areas like Manila, Quezon City, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, and parts of Makati and Cavite. They also handle dirty water (sewage) to keep the environment clean.

How Much Money Did They Make?

According to their press release, Maynilad’s earnings (called “net income”) grew by 10.3% to ₱4.0 billion in the first quarter of 2026, up from ₱3.6 billion during the same time in 2025. To put it simply, for every ₱100 they earned, about ₱44 was profit – that’s their “net income margin” of 43.9%.

The company’s total revenues (all the money coming in) increased by 6.2% to ₱9.1 billion from ₱8.6 billion. This happened because more customers signed up for water service and they delivered more water overall.

Their EBITDA (a measure of how well the company operates before accounting for certain expenses) rose 7.6% to ₱6.5 billion, with a margin of 71.4%. This shows the company is running efficiently.

Better Service for Customers

Maynilad improved how it serves customers in several ways:

  • More customers: They now serve 1.58 million connections, up 1.5% from last year
  • More water delivered: They supplied 136.1 million cubic meters of water, a 2.3% increase
  • 24-hour water availability: More homes now have water all day long – 97.9% of customers compared to 96.8% last year
  • Water pressure: The percentage of customers getting proper water pressure improved to 91.5% from 90.1%
  • Service coverage: Reached 94.9% of their service area, up from 94.7%

Less Water Wasted

One important achievement is that Maynilad reduced “Non-Revenue Water” (NRW) – this means water that’s lost through leaks or doesn’t get billed. They brought this down to 30.7% at the end of the quarter from 36.2% the year before. This is like having a bucket with holes – they’re fixing the holes so less water is wasted.

They did this by finding leaks faster, replacing old pipes, and improving their water network.

Environmental Work: Wastewater Management

Maynilad also expanded services for handling dirty water:

  • Sewerage coverage increased to 26% from 25%
  • Sanitation coverage improved to 58% from 55%
  • They emptied 48.3% more septic tanks – 1.3 million compared to 877,286 last year
  • More accounts (28,264) now have sanitation services, up 15% from 24,576

Where Did They Spend Money?

Maynilad invested ₱5.4 billion in improvements during the quarter, which is 11.6% more than the ₱4.9 billion they spent in the first quarter of 2025. Here’s where the money went:

  • Wastewater treatment expansion: ₱2.1 billion (up 65.2%)
  • Water source development: ₱1.1 billion (up 73.5%)
  • Fixing leaks and reducing water loss: ₱985.8 million (down 13.9%)
  • Customer service and computer systems: Up 51.8%

What the Company Says

Maynilad’s President and CEO, Ramoncito S. Fernandez, explained that their first quarter results show they’re doing their job well. He said they’re improving service reliability and water availability while maintaining strong financial performance. The company’s focus remains on making the system stronger, reducing water losses, and ensuring their investments lead to better service.

Important Numbers to Know

The company’s Interim Cash Position (ICP) – which is the value of assets that regulators recognize when deciding how much the company can earn – is estimated at approximately ₱183.0 billion as of the end of the first quarter of 2026. This reflects all the money they’ve been investing in infrastructure.
