Wilcon Depot, Inc., the Philippines’ biggest home improvement and construction supply store, announced how much money they made in the first three months of 2026. According to their official report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on May 4, 2026, the company earned P563 million in profit, which is 4.9% more than what they earned during the same period last year.
What Do These Numbers Mean?
Think of Wilcon Depot like a really big hardware store where people buy tiles, paint, toilets, and everything else needed to build or fix homes. Here’s what happened in the first quarter (January to March) of 2026:
- Total Sales: P9.17 billion – This means customers bought P9.17 billion worth of products from Wilcon stores. That’s 9.1% more than the same time last year.
- Net Income (Profit): P563 million – After paying for all their expenses (like employee salaries, electricity, and the cost of products), Wilcon had P563 million left as profit.
- Comparable Sales Growth: 4.7% – This means stores that were already open last year sold 4.7% more this year, showing that more people are buying from Wilcon.
Why Did Sales Go Up?
According to Lorraine Belo-Cincochan, Wilcon’s President and CEO, there are a few reasons why sales increased:
1. More Stores: Wilcon opened three new stores during the first quarter of 2026, all in Luzon. More stores means more places for customers to shop.
2. Better Customer Service: The company made improvements to help customers have a better shopping experience, which means people are buying more items and spending more money per visit.
3. Customers Bought Early: Some customers with ongoing construction projects bought their supplies earlier than usual because they were worried that prices might go up. This was because oil prices were rising due to conflicts in the Middle East, which can make products more expensive.
Breaking Down Wilcon’s Different Store Types
Wilcon operates different types of stores:
- Wilcon Depot stores (the big stores): Made P8.828 billion in sales, which is 96.3% of all sales. These stores grew by 8.8% compared to last year.
- DIW (Do It Wilcon) stores (smaller stores): Made P285 million in sales, which is 3.1% of total sales. These grew by 10.4%.
- Project Sales (big orders for construction projects): Made P56 million, which is 0.6% of sales. This grew by a huge 62.9% compared to last year.
What About Expenses and Profits?
Wilcon’s gross profit (money left after paying for the products they sell) was P3.394 billion, up 4.0% from last year. However, their profit margin got a bit smaller at 37.0% because they sold more lower-margin products (items where they don’t make as much profit per sale).
The company’s operating expenses (costs to run the business like rent, electricity, and salaries) went up to P2.771 billion, which is 4.1% more than last year. This increase was mainly because of the new stores, which need electricity, maintenance, and other services.
Future Plans
Ms. Belo-Cincochan shared that Wilcon plans to open eight stores total in 2026. Since they already opened three in the first quarter, they have five more stores planned. These new stores are already being built.
However, she mentioned that the company is being careful because of uncertainty from the Middle East conflict, which could affect business. Despite this, Wilcon is confident and prepared to handle any challenges.
