Asia United Bank Corporation (AUB), one of the banks listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange, has announced its biggest profit ever for the first three months of 2026. According to their official filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on May 15, 2026, the bank earned a record-high net income of P3.2 billion in the first quarter.
What Does This Mean in Simple Terms?
Think of a bank like a store that sells money services. When a bank does well, it means more people are saving money with them, borrowing money from them, and using their services. AUB’s record profit shows the bank is doing a very good job managing its business.
How Well Is the Bank Performing?
The bank shared several numbers that show how healthy it is:
- Return on Equity (ROE): 19.3% – This means for every P100 that the bank’s owners invested, the bank earned P19.30 in profit. That’s like getting a really good allowance for your savings!
- Return on Assets (ROA): 3.2% – This shows how well the bank uses everything it owns to make money.
- Net Interest Margin: 5.3% (up from 5.1% last year) – This is the difference between what the bank earns from loans and what it pays people who deposit money. A higher number is better.
The Bank Is Very Strong and Safe
One important measure of a bank’s safety is called the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR). AUB’s CAR is at 19.3%, which is much higher than what regulators require. Think of this as having extra allowance saved up for emergencies – the bank has plenty of money cushion to stay safe even if problems happen.
Another measure, called Common Equity Tier 1 (CET 1), rose to 18.7%. Both numbers show that AUB has more than enough money to protect its customers and handle tough economic times.
More People Are Using AUB’s Services
According to the press release, the bank’s lending business grew:
- Total loans: Grew 9.4% to reach P276.2 billion – This means more people and businesses are borrowing from AUB compared to last year.
- Total deposits: Increased 8.9% to P335.5 billion – More people are trusting AUB to keep their money safe.
Particularly impressive is AUB’s CASA ratio (Current Account and Savings Account), which jumped to 78% from 69% a year ago. This is important because CASA deposits are cheaper for banks – they don’t have to pay as much interest compared to other types of deposits. It’s like getting money to use almost for free!
Running the Business Efficiently
AUB is also spending less money to run its operations. The cost-to-income ratio improved to 30.4% from 32.6% the previous year. This means for every P100 the bank earns, it only spends P30.40 to operate – that’s very efficient!
Very Few Bad Loans
The bank’s non-performing loan (NPL) ratio stands at only 0.44%. Non-performing loans are like when someone borrows money but doesn’t pay it back. AUB’s very low number (less than half of one percent) means almost everyone is paying back their loans on time. Plus, the bank has an NPL coverage ratio of 111.2%, meaning they have more than enough money set aside to cover any loans that might not get paid back.
International Recognition
AUB recently received awards from major global banks J.P. Morgan and Standard Chartered Bank for achieving automated, error-free international money transfers at rates as high as 99.3%. Imagine sending 1,000 packages and only 7 having mistakes – that’s how accurate AUB is!
The bank’s investment funds also won awards. The AUB Peso Investment Fund and AUB Gold Dollar Fund (which has won for ten years straight) were named “Best Managed Funds” by the CFA Society Philippines in February 2026.
What the Bank President Says
According to the press release, AUB President Manuel A. Gomez said these achievements validate the bank’s “ability to maintain stability and growth in a ‘permacrisis’ environment.” He explained that their strong internal controls and investment strategies are built to handle difficult situations while still providing excellent service.
