GT Capital's Earnings Jump 17% to ₱33.7 Billion in 2025 Thanks to Strong Bank and Car Sales

GT Capital Holdings, Inc. (stock code: GTCAP), one of the Philippines’ biggest investment companies, announced that it earned ₱33.68 billion in 2025—that’s 17% more money than what they made in 2024, according to a report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on March 25, 2026.

To help understand what GT Capital does: think of it as a parent company that owns shares in several big businesses in the Philippines. It’s like having different piggy banks—one for banking, one for cars, one for real estate, and others for insurance and infrastructure projects.

What Made GT Capital Earn More Money?

The company’s success came mainly from two of its biggest businesses:

  • Metropolitan Bank & Trust Company (Metrobank) – One of the Philippines’ largest banks, which earned a record ₱49.7 billion in 2025
  • Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) – The company that makes and sells Toyota cars in the Philippines, which earned a record ₱19.0 billion in 2025

GT Capital also partly owns Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), which reported strong earnings of ₱27.1 billion during the same period.

Shareholders Getting Big Dividends

Because GT Capital made good money, the company’s Board of Directors approved on March 23, 2026, to give back ₱14.16 for every share to stockholders. This payment is split into two parts throughout the year:

  • Regular dividend: ₱6.00 per share
  • Special dividend: ₱8.16 per share

The first payment of ₱7.08 per share (₱3.00 regular + ₱4.08 special) will be given on April 22, 2026, to people who owned shares as of April 8, 2026.

How Metrobank Performed

Metrobank, GT Capital’s banking business, reached a record profit of ₱49.7 billion in 2025. The bank’s President, Fabian S. Dee, explained that this performance shows clients trust them and that they’re helping businesses and regular people who keep the Philippine economy running.

Here are some key numbers about Metrobank’s performance:

  • The bank’s total assets grew to ₱3.9 trillion (that’s ₱3,900 billion!)
  • Loans to customers increased by 8.8%
  • Bad loans (money people haven’t paid back) stayed very low at only 1.7% of total loans
  • The bank remains financially strong with a 16.8% Capital Adequacy Ratio, which is like a safety cushion

Toyota’s Record Car Sales

Toyota Motor Philippines had its best year ever, earning ₱19.0 billion—an 18.9% increase from the previous year. The company sold 229,447 vehicles in 2025, which is 5.2% more than 2024.

TMP President Masando Hashimoto shared that their popular models were the Vios and Avanza. The company maintained its “Triple Crown” for the 24th year in a row, meaning they sold the most passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and overall vehicles compared to any other car brand in the Philippines.

An interesting trend: more Filipinos are buying hybrid and electric cars. In 2025, these eco-friendly vehicles made up 8.5% of TMP’s sales, a big jump from just 0.33% in 2020. Popular hybrid models include the Zenix, Yaris Cross, and Corolla Cross.

TMP also launched two new electric vehicle options in 2025: the Toyota ATIV (their most affordable hybrid) and the bz4X (their first full battery-electric vehicle in the Philippines).

The company’s Next Generation Tamaraw, a light commercial vehicle popular with small businesses, reached an average of 2,000 units sold per month in the last quarter of 2025.

Other GT Capital Businesses

Federal Land, GT Capital’s real estate company, earned ₱522.3 million in 2025. The company completed and turned over five residential towers in different cities including Manila, Pasig, Marikina, Pasay, and Taguig. They’re also working on major projects in Bonifacio Global City and preparing The Estate Makati for completion in early 2027.

Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), which GT Capital partly owns, grew its core earnings by 15% to ₱27.1 billion. MPIC’s businesses include power generation, water services (Maynilad), toll roads, and hospitals—all of which performed well in 2025.

AXA Philippines, the insurance arm, earned ₱2.5 billion in 2025, with strong growth in both life insurance and general insurance products.

What the Company Leader Says

GT Capital President Carmelo Maria Luza Bautista explained that despite challenges in the global economy and political uncertainties, their businesses stayed strong in 2025. He said the company will continue being careful with spending while looking for opportunities to grow, and they’re confident they can deliver good results for their shareholders even when times are tough.
