SM Prime Holdings, Inc., one of the biggest mall developers in the Philippines, announced that it will open a new shopping mall called SM City Zamboanga on March 20, 2026. This will be their 90th mall in the entire Philippines and their 8th mall in Mindanao.

The mall is located along Mayor Vitaliano Agan Avenue in Barangay Camino Nuevo. This is SM Prime’s second mall in Zamboanga City – they already opened SM City Mindpro back in 2020.
Jeffrey C. Lim, the President of SM Prime, explained why they’re opening this new mall: “Zamboanga is a strong and growing market. This expansion allows us to broaden our footprint and respond to rising economic activity in the area.” He also mentioned that the new mall will create jobs for people in the area and help local businesses grow.

SM City Zamboanga will have several exciting features that are either first-time in the city or even in all of Mindanao:
- Tallest scenic elevator in Mindanao – This elevator has LED displays, making your ride up and down more fun to watch
- Corner outdoor LED wall – This is the first in Zamboanga City and can show 3D content (like those videos that look like they’re popping out of the screen)
- Electric vehicle charging station – The first one in Zamboanga for people who drive electric cars
- Environmental features – The mall will have solar panels to generate electricity from the sun, a “Trash to Cash” recycling program where people can exchange recyclables for rewards, and a special place to dispose of old electronics properly
- Muslim Prayer Room – A dedicated space for Muslim shoppers to pray, recognizing the diverse community in the region

- An indoor garden with a high ceiling that lets in sunlight and has a bird theme (called Skyplaza)
- An upgraded Cyberzone for gadgets and electronics
- A modern Food Court
- Three digital SM Cinemas, including two special Director’s Club cinemas for a more premium movie experience
- A Paw Park for pets
