Meralco Reports 12.6% Growth in Net Income for First Half of 2026, Declares ₱11.758 Cash Dividend

Manila Electric Company, or Meralco for short (the company that provides electricity to many homes in Metro Manila and nearby areas), shared some good news about how well they did in the first six months of 2026.

According to their official report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on July 29, 2026, Meralco’s Board of Directors approved the company’s financial results showing they earned more money compared to last year.

What Did Meralco Earn?

Let’s break down the numbers in a simple way:

  • Total Revenue (Money Coming In): Meralco made ₱283.7 billion in the first half of 2026. This is 15.7% more than the ₱245.2 billion they made in the same period last year.
  • Net Income (Profit After Expenses): The company’s actual profit was ₱27.5 billion, which is 12.6% higher than the ₱24.5 billion they earned last year.
  • Core Net Income: This special measurement (which removes unusual one-time events) was ₱26.5 billion, up 3.8% from ₱25.5 billion last year.

Earnings Per Share

For every share of Meralco stock, the company earned ₱23.33 based on reported net income and ₱23.516 based on core net income. This means if you owned one share of Meralco, that’s how much profit the company made for your share.

Cash Dividends for Shareholders

Great news for people who own Meralco shares! The Board of Directors approved a cash dividend of ₱11.758 per share. This represents 50% of Meralco’s Core Earnings Per Share, meaning the company is sharing half of its core profits with its shareholders.

Here are the important dates:

  • Record Date: August 28, 2026 – You must be a shareholder by this date to receive the dividend
  • Payment Date: September 23, 2026 – This is when shareholders will actually receive their money

Where Did the Money Come From?

Meralco makes money from different parts of its business:

  1. Distribution Business (48% of core income): This is the main business of delivering electricity to homes and businesses, which contributed ₱12.7 billion
  2. Power Generation (39% of core income): Through their company called Meralco Powergen Corporation (MGEN), they also produce electricity, contributing ₱10.5 billion – an 11% increase from last year
  3. Retail Electricity Supply: They also sell electricity directly to customers who can choose their supplier

What Made Them More Profitable?

According to the press release attached to the SEC filing, several factors helped Meralco grow:

  • Their power generation business (MGEN) produced more energy
  • Investments in domestic liquefied natural gas (LNG) and renewable energy projects paid off
  • More customers joined their retail electricity programs
  • Total system-wide sales reached 34,328 gigawatt-hours (GWh)

Solar Energy Milestone

In July 2026, Meralco’s MTerra Solar completed its Phase 1 project, which can deliver 600 megawatts (MW) of solar power. They’re planning to add another 250 MW in Phase 2 by 2027, showing their commitment to renewable energy.
